An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join the Finance team based in our corporate headquarters in New York City.

About the Job

This position will begin in the remote environment with the possibility of some in-person work in NYC pending GAI's developing reopening strategy.  The Staff Accountant will report to the Director of Accounting. The role will assist with the accounting and reconciliation processes in our Shared Services Center, a group within the Controllership department which handles back-office accounting for all our branches. The role will also be involved in various corporate accounting functions within our HQ office. This role will provide the chance for growth and learning opportunities for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily reconciliations in our shared services branch accounting group, to include reconciling a large volume of loan repayments daily using advanced Excel schedules and automation software.
  • Ensure integrity of data in Mambu, our loan management information system, through correction of any reconciling items identified during review.
  • Investigate returned payments to determine legitimacy of chargeback activity and process updates in Mambu.
  • Prepare regular journal entries and reconciliations during the month and month-end close process.
  • Assist in accounts payable process, ensuring proper coding of expenses and approval of purchases against budget.
  • Manages credit card and travel expense functions using Nexonia and American Express along with importing data into Intacct, our accounting software package.
  • Assists other team members in various accounting processes as needed.
  • Analyze various P&L and balance sheet accounts on regular basis.

Education/Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience, working for a non-profit or lending institution in accounting is a plus.
  • Bachelors degree in accounting or related major.
  • Committed team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with and interest in technological methods for improving workflows and increasing productivity.
  • Very strong Excel skills.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP.
  • Experience with Intacct accounting system a plus.

TRAVEL:

  • Attend quarterly staff meetings in New York City required. Travel and lodging at employee expense. 
  • Position is currently remote but may be subject to a hybrid schedule in the future.
