Product Ownership at Grameen

Grameen America is seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead two new strategic initiatives. The first is a member-facing Credit Enhancement offering, with a goal of measurably improving Members’ credit scores at the main credit bureaus. A successful candidate will be comfortable navigating a small, cross-functional team towards a Minimum Viable Product in 2025. They will then be equally comfortable using their product management toolbox to elicit constructive feedback from Members, staff, and external industry players, synthesize this quickly into requirements, prioritize the resulting features, and incorporate them into a cyclical process of continuous improvement.

The second is to manage the relationship with a 3rd party research firm which will be engaged in a project to define and answer some key questions in Grameen America’s learning agenda. This work, which will follow a Financial Diaries methodology, aims to understand both qualitatively and quantitatively the relationship between business finances, personal finances, material hardship and several other outstanding questions emerging from a previously conducted Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT). This project will establish the evidence base for potential future product enhancements.

The portfolio of products under development at Grameen America changes over time. These and other product development needs may come into or out of the portfolio of projects assigned to this position. The above products represent Grameen’s initial project needs.

In this role you will:

  • Take a leading role in the design and implementation of our member-facing Credit Enhancement product.
  • Engage in a discovery and learning process with industry players to understand what reporting changes, educational materials, or loan product enhancements might be necessary to bring their credit scores in closer alignment with these needs and expectations (Discovery and Design phases in 2024, MVP in 2025).
  • Create and maintain a roadmap of future Credit Enhancement changes.
  • Ensure timely execution of the features in the Credit Enhancement roadmap, in partnership with internal stakeholders in compliance, finance, operations, and others.
  • Take a leading role shaping and executing Grameen America’s learning agenda around Member outcomes.
  • Act as primary point of contact and Grameen liaison to a third party research firm conducting follow-on research from a previously completed RCT, utilizing a Financial Diaries methodology to answer key questions around the relationship between business finances, personal finances, material hardship and several other outstanding questions.
  • Oversee incremental improvements to Grameen America’s internal impact data collection, in line with the recommendations of the third party research firm.
  • Ensure that research learnings and findings are incorporated into future Product design.
  • Be a partner, champion, and support to Members through their Grameen journey.
  • Have a willingness to roll projects into and out of your product portfolio over time.

You should have:

  •    Bachelor’s degree; 4-8 years of previous experience in Product Management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to tell stories visually and with data.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Trustworthy, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and build strong relationships with Members, colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • Experience planning, organizing and leading working sessions and user testing sessions with target audiences to gather feedback and requirements.
  • Proven analytical skills, including an understanding of how to collect, visualize, and tell a compelling story about outcome data for program participants.
  • A history of working with and leading small, cross-functional teams
  • Strong organization skills, detail oriented with the ability to complete work accurately and efficiently
  • Proficiency in English required. Proficiency in Spanish desired
  • Prior knowledge of the US credit bureau reporting system is a plus.

TRAVEL:

  • Attend quarterly staff meetings in New York City required. Travel and lodging at employee expense.
  • Travel to field branches as required.

Interested applicants may apply through the careers section of the website at grameenamerica.org Interviews will take place after resumes have been screened for minimum requirements. Please note that this position is not restricted solely to the responsibilities listed above and that the job scope and responsibilities are subject to change.
